Families in Transition Seminar
This seminar is court ordered and mandatory for all couples seeking divorce, separate maintenance, paternity (once
established), change of custody, visitation, legitimation (once established),
and by specific order of the Court in Georgia that have children under 18 years
of age. The seminar is designed to provide information to parents to assist them
in dealing with the effects of the divorce on the children. Couples do not have
to attend the seminar together. Judges will not grant your divorce final until
certification is sent from us that both parties have attended the seminar. You
must pre-register at least one day in advance for any class you wish to attend
by calling 912-435-1729 or faxing (see note below). The three locations in which
the seminar is held include Tifton, Albany, and Cordele. Directions for
each of these locations are as follows.
All meetings in Tifton are held at the First United Methodist Church, 107 12th Street West, corner of 12th and
Central. From North 1-75, exit #21 (Hwy 41, ABAC), go to the right toward town to intersection of 12th and Central
(Church is on the left). Turn left and park on Central. Watch for signs for Divorce Seminar. Enter back of the main
church office door and follow signs. Seminar held in Loyalty Room.
All meetings in Albany are held at the First United Methodist Church, 307 Flint Ave. at the corner of Flint and
Jefferson, in the back of the church in the Sapp Room. Enter from the alley off Jefferson Street, between Flint and
Roosevelt. Go down alley to parking lot on left, follow signs across alley for the Divorce Seminar.
All meetings in Cordele are held at the Sheriff's Office and Detention Center, 197 Highway 300 South, in the
Courtroom. From 1-75, exit #32- GA/FL Parkway, head toward Albany. Sheriffs Office is about 1 mile on right, new gray
building.
Please have the following information:
- Name, address and phone number of person (s) attending seminar.
- Civil action file number (case number) and County where divorce was filed. You may attend the seminar without a case number. However, the certificate of completion cannot be sent to the judge without the case number.
- Whether person (s) is the plaintiff or defendant, and the name of the other party in the court action.
- The date of the seminar you wish to attend.
The fee for the seminar is $30 per person and is payable in cash, or money order only. NO CHECKS ACCEPTED.
Payment is made on the day of the seminar at check-in time. Fees may be waived for persons qualifying as indigent under
the guidelines for the Circuit Defender Program.
